About this release
The relatively young Domaine de Charron, owned by the Lartigue familly was first producing Armagnac in 1985. Today the domaine is led by the wonderful and super sympatheric Jean-Philippe Balay, a former rugby player and son-in-law of the founder Claude Lartigue. Out of only three hectar of Baco only wineyards, their annual production is between 5-10 casks, so we are really speaking of a micro-distillery here!
Other than many Armagnac domaines who work with a mobile distiller, Charron distill their wine on their own, 80 years old column still.
Tasting Notes
On the nose you get a fresh bourbon-y surprise of black cherries, dipped into vanilla cream! Precious spices like ceylon cinnamon and cardamom are adding depth and complexity.
On the palate it’s powerful and lively with a heavy body, yet totally balanced, with a profound cherry and raisin sweetness that is leading into a lingering, dry finish of nutty chocolate.
